Dick Jiro Kobashigawa passed away peacefully at age 97 at home in San Francisco on Aug. 29, 2012. A Kibei Nisei born in Phoenix, Ariz. on Nov. 4, 1914, he grew up in the family village of Izumi-son, Okinawa. Over a long life he was a farmworker, gardener, longtime member of the Okinawa Kenjinkai, political activist, historian and writer. Pre-deceased by his wife, Sumiye, he is survived by his children, Ben, Jun and Linda, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes, a small memorial gathering of family and friends was held on Saturday, Sept. 8, in San Francisco.
