Naomi Hirahara, Edgar Award-winning author of the Mas Arai mystery series, will be part of “Specters, Spirits and Spies: A Night of Spooky Storytelling”? on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 8 p.m. at The Last Bookstore, 453 S. Spring St., Los Angeles.

The evening will also feature renowned Los Angeles authors and performance artists Amber Benson (“It’s…”), Joshua Dysart (“The Stain”), Christina Aimerito Feinberg (“The Visitors”), Monica Howe (“Little Water Song”), Michael Kearns (“Holy Cards”), Ian MacKinnon (“The Curse of Batterslea Hall”), Janice and Gideon Markham (“Weekend at Camp Dust Bowl”), Julianna Parr (“Haunted Filmstrip Surprise”), Gary Phillips (“Disco Zombies”), Lisa Teasley (“The Numerologist”), and Will Wright (“Untainted”).
Hirahara will read “Mas’s Bachi,” in which the past travels across the Pacific Ocean to haunt Altadena and North Hollywood. Her novels include “Summer of the Big Bachi,” “Gasa-gasa Girl,” “Snakeskin Shamisen,” “Blood Hina” and the upcoming “Strawberry Yellow.”
Snacks to share are welcome. Pajamas are encouraged. Bring a cushion to sit on. Storytelling begins promptly at 8:30 p.m.
