Toshiko Kay Allman

Toshiko Kay Allman was born in Kozaka, Mie-ken, Japan on July 18, 2012 and died of cancer in Glendale on July 17, 2012. In 1957, after marrying Joseph Allman in Kobe, Japan, she emigrated to the U.S. and became an American Citizen. A resident of the Phoenix Metro area since 1964, she worked for many years at Miriam’s Designer Clothes, where she indulged her lifelong love of fashion and design. Toshiko and her husband participated in many community efforts, including the Japanese American Citizens League, Chojukai, Girl Scouts, Japanese Senior Center and Phoenix Himeji Sister Cities Program (including the Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix). She particularly enjoyed the annual Arizona Matsuri/Festival of Japan, for which she volunteered from its very first year. Toshiko is survived by her husband, Joseph & daughter, Karen Maeda Allman (& Elizabeth Wales of Seattle); brothers Iwao Maeda (Miyako) and Atsushi Maeda (Yukiko), brother-in-law Kenji Morito and many nephews, nieces and friends both in the US and Japan. She was predeceased by her daughter Catherine & sister Yuki Morito. A public memorial service was conducted by the Arizona Buddhist Church at West Resthaven Funeral Home and her ashes interred at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
