GARDEN GROVE — A man around 50 years old who fell on a street was struck by a car and killed on Tuesday in Garden Grove, police said.

The crash happened around 6:40 p.m. on Chapman Avenue west of Euclid Street, said Garden Grove police Investigator Jason Perkins.

The victim was running north across Chapman Avenue when he fell in the No. 2 lane and was struck by a westbound Saab sedan, Perkins said.

He was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, where he was pronounced dead, Perkins said.

The driver of the Saab, 56-year-old John Saruwatari, remained at the scene and was not cited, Perkins said.

The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of his family, Perkins said.

Drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to have been a factor in the crash, according to police.
