Shunji Iwai

“Out of the Films,” a solo exhibition of works by award-winning director Shunji Iwai, will be on view for one week, from April 27 to May 2, at Giant Robot 2, 2062 Sawtelle Blvd., Los Angeles.

The exhibition will feature some storyboard art drawn by Iwai, as well as some of his photographs. He is scheduled to appear in person at the exhibition reception, which will be held Saturday, April 27, from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

“Generally, people call me a director or filmmaker. However, I feel like I’m just a kid who’s having fun,” Iwai said. “I like drawing, taking photos, writing novels and composing music. This time, I focused on pictures I drew. Please enjoy them.”

Iwai is known for such films as “Swallowtail Butterfly” (1996), “All About Lily Chou Chou” (2001), “Hana and Alice” (2004), and “Vampire” (2011).

Store hours: 12 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; 12 to 8 p.m. Saturday; 12 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
