The Los Angeles Buddhist Church Federation’s Hanamatsuri, a service, lecture and artwork exhibition in celebration of Buddha’s birthday, will be held Sunday, April 7, at 1 p.m. at Jodoshu North America Buddhist Missions, 442 E. Third St. (between San Pedro and Central) in Little Tokyo.
The schedule (subject to change) is as follows:

1 p.m. — Gagaku/bugaku (Japanese court music and dance) performance by Kinnara Gagaku
1:25 p.m. — Service by LABCF ministers
1:45 p.m. — Award ceremony for children’s artwork (theme: “This Is Me”)
2:10 p.m. — Commemorative lecture, “Buddhism and Women” by Dr. Lori R. Meeks, associate professor, University of Southern California (in English with Japanese translation)
3:30 p.m. — Adjournment
LABCF consists of seven temples — Higashi Honganji, Jodo Shu, Koyasan, Long Beach Buddhist Church, Nichiren Shu, Nishi Hongwanji and Zenshuji — and annually observes the Hanamatsuri service to celebrate the birth of Sakyamuni Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.
