Kenneth Masao Hirakami, 89-year-old Honolulu-born Nisei, Army veteran of 1399th Battalion at Schofield Barracks and a retired carpenter, passed away on July 14, 2013 at his home in Monterey Park, CA. Private memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. at Fukui Mortuary “Chapel in the Garden,” 707 E. Temple St., Los Angeles, CA 90013, with grandson Randy Craft officiating. The family requests aloha attire and no flowers please.
He is survived by his loving family: wife, Maebelle Chiyoko Hirakami; children, Cheryl (Bill) Craft, Janyce (Jerry) Melnyk, Brian Hirakami and Lisa Hirakami; grandchildren, Kristi (Paul) Sardis, Randy (Megan) Craft; great-grandchildren, Kaden and Kaleiah Craft, Ekaterini Sardis. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Hirakami of Hawaii, and many nieces, nephews and relatives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine Nishihara Hirakami.
