Buddhist Temple of Marin, located in Mill Valley, held its annual Obon observance on July 14 with a special service conducted by Rev. Ronald Kobata, supervising minister, traditional Japanese dancing led by instructor Chiz Shiro, and a potluck lunch. In past years, the celebration included a festival with food booths, games for kids, and cultural demonstrations and performances, but it has been scaled down. The Bon Odori used to be held outside but is now held inside the temple hall. For more information on the temple’s activities, call (415) 388-1173 or visit http://buddhisttempleofmarin.org. There are no Sunday services in August, but they will resume in September.
