ALHAMBRA — The City of Alhambra will present “Concerts Under the Stars” starting Friday, Aug. 9, at 7 p.m. at the Alhambra Park Bandshell, 500 N. Palm Ave., Alhambra.

June Kuramoto, the kotoist from the local band Hiroshima, will be joined by bandmates Dan Kuramoto and Kimo Cornwell for an evening of special music, fond memories and new experiences. She calls Alhambra her hometown, so the first concert in the series will be led by one of Alhambra’s own.

Taiko Center of Los Angeles will also be performing. A kendo demonstration is scheduled to precede the concert.

The event is free. Attendees can opt for traditional festival seating or bring their own blankets and lawn chairs. Food trucks will be on site; attendees can also bring their own picnic baskets.

The series continues with Backbeats (Beatles tribute show) on Aug. 16, jazz trumpeter Elliott Caine on Aug. 23, and Mestizo LA (salsa, rock and R&B) on Aug. 30.
