Dear Editor:
America is headed towards financial crisis, brought on by certain members of Congress (mostly Republicans and some Democrats) to de-fund “Obamacare.” As of this moment, much if not most of the federal government remains shut down and now we are quickly headed toward another debt-limit “fiscal cliff.”
All of this because some members of Congress are determined to stop the funds for the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
What would Jesus say about the ACA (also known as “Obamacare”)? This is not entirely a hypothetical question since the Bible tells us that Jesus spoke mightily about caring for the sick, and he spent much of his precious time going around healing broken and diseased bodies and minds. It is clear that Jesus would speak loudly and forcefully in favor of providing health care access for millions of uninsured Americans, many of whom are low-income.
The Asian American & Pacific Islander Christians for Social Justice strongly urges the Republican and Tea Party leaders to stop their unkind and unloving actions to prevent health care access through “Obamacare,” and to pass a federal budget and debt-ceiling limit that works for all Americans.
