Jack Yoshinobu Hirai, 88, passed away peacefully on Nov. 1, 2013. He was born in Oxnard, Calif. to Yasuzo and Sachiko Hirai on July 17, 1925. A proud Nisei, Jack was an internee of Gila River relocation camp during WWII and also served his country in the Korean War. His trucking business, J.Y. Hirai and Son, Inc., continues in business to this day.
Jack leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Michiko; children Arleen Ayers, Dianne Hirai (Clayton Chun), Bruce Hirai (JoAnn) and Brigette Hirai (Tony Avalos); eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He is also survived by sisters Kikue Horikawa and Tsuya Nakamura; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, from 10:30 a.m. at Oxnard Buddhist Temple, 250 South “H” Street, Oxnard, CA.
