Morimoto, a graduate of North Torrance High and a volunteer coach for F.O.R. volleyball, was listed on the All-SCC first team. She bounced back from injury in her freshman season and put together a solid sophomore campaign.

She was fifth on the team with 90 kills and was stellar defensively, finishing third on the team with 233 digs and a 3.07 digs per set average. She also led the team with 33 service aces.

ECC sophomore SueKalena Tafao headlined the Warriors’ seven selections as she earned the SCC Most Valuable Player honors, while head coach Le Valley Pattison was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Tafao was the fourth straight Warriors player to earn SCC MVP honors and ranked in the top 10 of the SCC in every major statistical category. She led the Warriors with 270 kills in 80 sets played this season, good enough for second in the conference.

Her 3.38 kills per set average was also second in the SCC, both marks behind fellow first team selection Nora To’omalatai of Pasadena.

The 5-foot-5 Morimoto had 16 digs and three digs in ECC’s first-round playoff win over Bakersfield, but the Warriors’ season came to an abrupt end on Nov. 30 with a straight-set loss at Golden West.
