Japanese American Korean War Veterans President Bacon Sakatani and Chairman Sam Shimoguchi announced that JAKWV will again host a veterans hospitality room, have a booth at the JACCC Japanese American National War Memorial Court, and participate in the Nisei Week Parade.
This year, Hershey Miyamura, Medal of Honor recipient from the Korean War and a charter member of the JAKWV, has been named as the grand marshal of the Nisei Week Parade, which will be held on Sunday Aug. 10, starting at 4 p.m.
In keeping with tradition, World War II veterans will lead the parade, followed by Miyamura with the Korean War veterans, then a large contingent of Japanese American Vietnam War veterans.
The JAKWV hospitality room will be located at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, 244 S. San Pedro St., and will be open to all veterans as well as widows, children and relatives of veterans of all wars. There will be food and refreshments and a place to rest during the Nisei Week events.
The hospitality room will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 9 and 10.
An information booth will be located next to the JA National War Memorial Court and there will be literature and other information available. There will be free flowers for anyone wishing to pay their respects to those who gave their lives for this country at the War Memorial Court.
Any Korean War and Vietnam War era vet, no matter where they served, is asked to participate the parade.
