The 2014 World Taiko Gathering, held July 17 to 20 in Little Tokyo, included “Lunar Jam 2014,” a free concert on the night of July 18 in the Japanese American National Museum’s courtyard. The performers included Genki Spark (above), a Boston-based pan-Asian women’s taiko group; Canadian multi-percussionist Patrick Graham (below left); and Southern California post-collegiate taiko group Prota (below right).
Above: Sacramento Taiko Dan. Below: Pasadena-based Makoto Taiko. Also performing were Naruwan Taiko of San Diego, Denver Taiko, and Kona Daifukuji Taiko. The concert, which showcases diverse expressions of taiko from across North America, is a tradition that started in 2003.
