Shizuye Ishibashi, batik artist and shodo/calligrapher, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2014. She was a centenarian who endured incarceration in a U.S. concentration camp (Rohwer, AK) for Japanese Americans during WWII. She is survived by her loving family: Amy Niwa (Aki), William Ishibashi (Priscilla), Johnny Ishibashi, Jean Ishibashi (Alberto Saldamando); grandchildren Stephen Niwa, Katherine Ishibashi (Lawrence To), Lauren Ishibashi-Asaoka (Jon) and Shizu Saldamando; great-grandchildren: Sage and Willow Ishibashi-To, and Melanie Asaoka. Her gentle spirit, strong energy, and ability to create beauty in the midst of adversity will live on … kodomo no tame ni.
A private gravesite service was held Sept. 29, 2014.
