GARDENA — On Sunday, June 7, from 1 to 3 p.m., the Gardena Pioneer Project will present an educational seminar on heart health and managing your prescription medications at the Ken Nakaoka Community Center, 1700 W. 162nd St., Gardena.

Keith Yabumoto, M.D. will discuss how to keep your heart healthy, especially in terms of preventive care, diet and cholesterol, and will explain warning signs and symptoms of heart attack and stroke.
Yabumoto has a private practice in El Segundo focusing on prevention and non-invasive cardiac evaluation and is affiliated with Providence Little Company of Mary and Marina Del Rey Hospitals. He is board-certified in cardiovascular medicine, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.
Akiko Hattori Maloney, Pharm.D., will discuss how to most effectively manage your medications, different drug interactions, medications that should be avoided by senior citizens, and how to take medications to prevent side effects.
Maloney is a graduate of USC School of Pharmacy and has been a pharmacist since 2008. She is a clinical pharmacist at Keck Hospital of USC with an inpatient pharmacy practice.
The seminar is open to the public, refreshments will be provided, admission is free, and no reservations are required. Translation will be provided for the Japanese-speaking. Both speakers will be available for a limited time to answer some individual questions at the end of the program.
