The Japanese American National Museum in Little Tokyo celebrated Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and the final month of “Hello! Exploring the Supercute World of Hello Kitty” on May 9 during Target Free Family Saturday. Island Inspirations, which incorporates traditions from Tahiti, Hawaii and New Zealand, gave kids a Polynesian dance lesson.
Activities for kids included origami (above), flower arrangement (below), taiko drumming, Bollywood-style dance and K-pop dance.
Organizers of Nisei Week’s Nebuta float hosted a craft table where kids made designs for lanterns.
Families posed for photos with Hello Kitty, with backdrops added digitally.
Messages thanking Nisei veterans for their service were posted on a paper flag.
