GARDENA — Shige Higashi, editor and publisher of Cultural News, will be the guest speaker at the monthly program of the Greater Los Angeles Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League on Sunday, March 20, at 2p .m. at Merit Park Recreation Hall, 58 Merit Park Dr. in Gardena.
A native of Japan, Higashi came to Los Angeles in 1981. After working at Japanese daily newspapers in Los Angeles and San Francisco, and at the Los Angeles bureaus of Japan’s major newspapers and news agencies, he started Cultural News, an English monthly paper, 17 years ago.
His newspaper covers the many Japanese art and cultural events in the Los Angeles area, and the readership of has been expanding beyond the Japanese-speaking community and the Japanese American community to non-Japanese readers.
Higashi will explain how much Japanese art and culture are appreciated in America.
