Kengo Ihara

Memorial services for the late Mr. Kengo Ihara, 87-year-old, Los Angeles born, who passed away on August 31 at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, were held on September 7 at Fukui Mortuary “Chapel In The Garden,” officiated by Rev. Clifford Ishigaki.

Kengo is survived by his wife, Teruyo Ihara; daughters Maxine (Jim) Cain of Altadena, CA, and Emily (Bruce Freedman) Ihara of Fairfax, VA, and grandson, Ryan Cain of Altadena, CA.

He was born December 28, 1930, in Boyle Heights, CA, to Zenzaemon and Chiseno Ihara. He attended schools in Yokohama, Kagawa-ken, Shikoku and Hyogo-ken, graduating in March 1954 from the Commerce department of Kwansei Gakuin University (majoring in business management). Returning to the United States at age 24, he served in the U.S. Army, 57th Field Artillery Battalion in the service battery, 7th infantry division, in Korea, from 1955 to 1956. He was a member of the Southern California Gardeners Federation for 40 years until 2015. He lived in Los Angeles, Montebello, and Alhambra.
