Hikaru Morohoshi
October 4, 1915 – December 7, 2018
HIKARU MOROHOSHI was a 103 year-old Kibei-Nisei who grew up in Kanagawa, Japan was born in Stockton, CA in 1915 and joined the US Army for a couple of years before being interned at Tule Lake with an honorable discharge. Upon his exit, he was sponsored by the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and adapted their diet for the remainder of his life. Coupled with the extraordinary support of his wife, Yoshiko Morohoshi who was also a nurse, Hikaru was able to live a robust and healthy life riding his red scooter every day throughout the streets of Torrance and Gardena till a few weeks ago. He took his final breath in a most peaceful and gentle way on the evening of Friday, December 7, 2018 and as his surname “Morohoshi” implies, he is making his journey back to the stars.
He was preceded in death by his son Bob “Bobby” Osamu Morohoshi; and he is survived by his loving family; wife, Yoshiko Morohoshi; children, Marie Kyoko Morohoshi, Makoto Tad Morohoshi; last remaining of eleven siblings, Miyako Komatsu of Japan, sisters-in-law Chisato Morohoshi of San Francisco, CA, Akiko and husband Sadao Iwashita of Glendale, CA, Teruko Aoki, Tomiko Kubota, Emiko Sugiyama and husband Hisakazu, Eiko Asakura, all of Japan. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives in San Francisco and Japan.
Public funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Green Hills Memorial Chapel, 27501 S Western Avenue, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275
