Lillian Miyeko (née Higa) Yamashiro

Lillian Miyeko (née Higa) Yamashiro passed away peacefully on December 27, 2018. She died in her home in Los Angeles with her husband and children by her side. She was 90-years-old.

A homemaker and devoted wife, Lillian was born on October 19, 1928 in Waipahu, Hawaii. Her parents, Koho and Kana Higa, moved to Hawaii from Okinawa, Japan. Lillian graduated from Waipahu High School and married her beloved husband, Richard Yamashiro, in Honolulu in 1951. She and Richard moved to Los Angeles in 1959 where they raised their five children.

Leading a life marked by devotion to family, Lillian loved gatherings with her children, grandchildren, and other relatives. She had a passion for gardening. She also loved travel, especially trips to Hawaii to see family, jaunts to Las Vegas, and treks to the Uchinanchu Festival held in Okinawa. But, without a doubt, her greatest joy in life was her sixty-seven-year marriage to Richard.

Lillian in survived by Richard, her five children (Dennis, Claire, Karen, Darrell, and Sandra) and four grandchildren (Lindsay, Mitchell, Daniel, and Lucas).

At Lillian’s request, in lieu of a funeral service, a family-only “celebration of her life” will be held. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to the Hope & Heroes Children’s Cancer Fund at hopeandheroes.org
