Beloved mother, wife, sister, aunt and grandmother, Masako Kuratomi Kaneko, 100, passed away peacefully at her home in Culver City on March 3, 2021. Born in San Diego and incarcerated at Jerome, Arkansas, she eventually settled in Southern California. She was a meticulous secretary before becoming a full-time mother. She was kind and generous and believed in the power of education.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Takeo William Kaneko, parents Rintaro and Hide Kuratomi, and sister Ikuko Murakami. She is survived by her children: Sharon (Brian) Leahy, Robert, Gail (Bruce Wertz) and Ann Kaneko; nieces Susan and Elaine Murakami; sister-in-law, Kimiko Kaneko; nephew Koichi Kaneko of Japan; and grandchildren, Hiroshi, Sachi and Ceiba Kaneko.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private memorial service will be held at L.A. Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple at a later date.
