Yae Miyahata

Yae Miyahata, age 90, passed away on April 5, 2021 at Kaiser Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. A Pasadena-born Nisei and resident of Culver City, she was the youngest of four siblings born to Takao and Yasuko Miyahata. Yae was predeceased by her brothers, Nob (Sayo) Miyahata, Mas (Diane) Miyahata, and Karl (Cathy) Miyahata.

Yae attended Maryknoll School in Los Angeles, then she and her family were interned at Heart Mountain, Wyoming during WWII. Having decided at an early age that she wanted to go to college and have a career, she attended LACC (Los Angeles City College) and later transferred to UCLA to finish her studies with the goal of becoming a physical therapist (PT). She spent her career working as a PT at organizations including Orthopedic Hospital and Kaiser Permanente. Her work also afforded her the opportunity to travel, and she attended many PT World Congress meetings in Hong Kong, China, Australia, and Sweden. In retirement, she kept busy volunteering at a food bank and maintaining her lifelong friendships.

Yae is survived by her six nieces and nephew, Julie (Ed) Kawamoto, Kari Miyahata, Lori (Rod) Masuda, Tammie Miyahata, Leslie (Lani DeBenedictis) Miyahata, Lisa (Jay Tamiya) Miyahata and Mitchel Miyahata; and other relatives. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. A private service will be held at a later date.

Her wishes were to be scattered at sea.
