GARDENA — Candidates for Gardena City Council will speak at a public forum on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Nakaoka Community Center, 1670 W. 162nd St. in Gardena.

Two of the following candidates will be elected to four-year terms:

Mark Henderson, who was elected to the City Council in 2015 and 2020 and currently serves as mayor pro tem. He was previously a member of the Planning and Environmental Quality Commission.

Paulette Francis, who was elected to the City Council in 2020. She has served as chair of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cultural Committee of Gardena.

Aimee Yamada, a long-time PTA member and PTSA board secretary at her children’s and grandchildren’s schools and founder of Isami Taiko at Gardena Buddhist Church.

Anthony Dixon, an EMT and ambulance supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and senior vice commander of Gardena VFW.

The election will be held on Tuesday, March 5, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. A dropbox for vote-by-mail ballots will be open 24 hours a day starting Feb. 5 at the Nakaoka Community Center and the Rowley Park Gym, 13220 Van Ness Ave.
