A sale featuring second-hand kimono, vintage pieces, new Yukata, kimono accessories, handmade items inspired by Japanese culture, and more will take place in a format resembling a garage sale on Saturday, the 23rd, and Sunday, the 24th, at the former Kihara Art and Craft Studio location in Gardena (1604 W154th St.). The entrance is located on Denker Ave. The event will run from 11:00 am to 4:30 pm on both days.
Organized by Chiharu Nakajima-Teil of “Kimono-ya LA,” known for hosting pop-up events offering affordably priced used kimono and Japanese goods, this event is being titled the “Japanology Fair” for the first time and will span two days.
Vendors will include “Beauty by Kiyoko,” “Kimono Suishin,” and “Kihara Art Studio,” along with services such as kimono cleaning provided by “Mita Sky,” calligraphy by “Yofu,” and jewelry by “Harumi Lunage.” Vintage kimonos will start at $29, while new Yukata will be available from $39. Over eight booths will be set up in total.
Nakajima brings together independent kimono vendors and individuals looking to sell their kimono collections. As both the organizer and a vendor, Nakajima encourages visitors to come and uncover hidden treasures.
Nakajima has previously hosted pop-up events in various locations including South Bay, Sawtelle, Pasadena, Sun Valley, Orange County, and San Diego, and welcomes more individual vendors to join, as well as new host locations.
