Nadeshikokai (Japanese Culture and Traditions, Inc.), based in Los Angeles, has announced details for the 2025 Seijinshiki on its website at www.nadeshikokai.org.
On Sunday, Jan. 19, Nadeshikokai will host the “Seijinshiki,” a coming-of-age ceremony, at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute, 1964 W. 162nd St., Gardena, from 2 to 3:30 p.m.

The celebration will honor young adults embarking on a bright future, supported by the love of family, friends, and the local community. VIP guests will be in attendance, and the event will feature live music. Many of the participants will be dressed in gorgeous kimono.
“In Japan, the seijinshiki ceremony is an important milestone in life, and it has been treasured for a long time. Regardless of nationality or gender, we hope that all new adults will enjoy wearing kimono and experience this traditional Japanese event,” said Mika Kuroda, president of Nadeshikokai.

In 2013, Nadeshikokai organized its inaugural Seijinshiki to commemorate the transition of young adults into responsible individuals ready to contribute to society. This special ceremony, deeply rooted in Japanese tradition dating back to the eighth century, is a testament to the nation’s cultural heritage.

In Japan, Seijinshiki is commonly hosted by municipal governments every January and is for young adults who are turning 20, the legal age of adulthood. However, in recent years, the legal age of adulthood in Japan has been lowered to 18.

In 2025, Nadeshikokai will cel-ebrate its 13th Seijinshiki, honoring young adults aged 18 to 20. The ceremony will be produced by Nade-shikokai members with the help of many dedicated volunteers.
