Ben Wang, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio star in “Karate Kid: Legends.”
LAS VEGAS.–On March 31, the first day of CinemaCon 2025, the annual gathering of theater owners in Las Vegas, Barco announced upcoming Sony Pictures titles to be released in premium HDR, including “Karate Kid: Legends.”
Set for release on May 30, “Karate Kid: Legends” unites the iconic martial arts masters of one of the most beloved film franchises of all time to tell a new story full of action and heart.
When kung fu prodigy Li Fong (Ben Wang) relocates to New York City with his mother (Ming-Na Wen) to attend a prestigious new school, he finds solace in a new friendship with a classmate and her father. But his newfound peace is short-lived after he attracts unwanted attention from a formidable local karate champion.
Driven by a desire to defend himself, Li embarks on a journey to enter the ultimate karate competition. Guided by the wisdom of his kung fu teacher, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), and the legendary Karate Kid, Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), Li merges their unique styles to prepare for an epic martial arts showdown.
Directed by Jonathan Entwistle; written by Rob Lieber; produced by Karen Rosenfelt; executive producers are Jenny Hinkey and Macchio. The cast also includes Joshua Jackson and Sadie Stanley.
Macchio starred in “The Karate Kid” (1984) and two sequels opposite the late Pat Morita as his sensei, Mr. Miyagi. “Cobra Kai,” a TV series that ran from 2018 to 2025, brought back Macchio and other cast members from the movies, including William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence, Martin Kove as John Kreese, Thomas Ian Griffith as Terry Silver, Yuji Okumoto as Chozen, and Tamlyn Tomita as Kumiko. Daniel names his dojo after Miyagi, who appears in flashbacks.
Chan starred in “The Karate Kid” (2010), which was set in China and featured Jaden Smith as Han’s student, Dre Parker. In “Karate Kid: Legends,” it’s revealed that Han and Miyagi knew each other.
