
1940 – 2025
Jane Kimiko Winters, 85, passed away on April 17 at the Monterey Park Hospital after a brief illness. She was a resident of Monterey Park.
Jane was born in Los Angeles on April 2, 1940, to Frank and Michiko Moriuchi of Los Angeles. She was interned in the Rohwer, Arkansas concentration camp with her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. She attended Maryknoll School, where she was active in the Maryknoll Drum and Bugle Corps and Girl Scouts. After graduation in 1954, Jane continued her Catholic education at our Lady of Loretto High School, where she graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1958. She matriculated to Mount Saint Mary’s College, Chalon Road campus, and eventually transferred to the University of California, Los Angeles, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in general education. For 40 years she taught at Potrero Heights Elementary School in South San Gabriel, where she was a popular teacher who earned the respect and love of students, parents, and school staff.
Jane enjoyed reading and spending time with family and friends, as well as with her loving pets. She pursued her dream of traveling to Europe, Canada, the eastern United States, and took cruises to faraway ports. She traveled often to Palm Springs and Las Vegas, where she loved the excitement of the casino.
She is survived by her brother, Kunio Derek Moriuchi; aunt, Miyoko Kawahata; and many cousins.
Funeral services will be at Fukui Mortuary on Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m.
Viewing will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Jane will be buried at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Cherry Blossom Lawn.
