Loretta Shizuko Uyehara Bonnemere, 89, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025. Born in Seattle, Washington, she was one of ten children of Francis Kintaro and Suye Uyehara. During World War II, Loretta and her family were interned at Minidoka War Relocation Center before resettling in Toledo, Ohio.
She earned degrees from Loyola University and Columbia University, beginning her career as a librarian in New York City. After the passing of her husband, Theodore Bonnemere, Loretta moved to Los Angeles and worked as a legal secretary.
In retirement, she became an avid quilter and member of the Friends of Little Tokyo Quilting Group, participating in the Nisei Week Quilt Show for several years.
She is survived by her sons, Francis and Vincent; grandsons, Theodore, Elijah, Joshua, Isaiah, and Josiah; and sisters, Rose, Kathy, and Dorothy. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and siblings, James, Agnes, Howard, Mary, George, and Tommy.
