A homeless man found dead on Metro tracks at a station in the Westlake District was identified by county authorities on June 9.

Jesse Nishikawa, 33, died from electrocution after accidentally coming into contact with the electrically energized third rail, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Los Angeles Fire Department.

On July 8 at around 11:30 a.m., firefighters responded to the Westlake/MacArthur Park Station, located at 660 S. Alvarado St., to reports of a man down on tracks shared by Metro’s B (Red) and D (Purple) train lines, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

It was unclear how Nishikawa ended up on the tracks and an autopsy was scheduled. As of July 24 the case remained open.

The coroner’s report listed Nishikawa’s ethnicity as Black and Asian, and stated that the body had been released, but did not say to whom.
