
In addition to SEJSCC members, ondo participants included members of other community centers and Buddhist temples.

Happyfunsmile performed on stage and also provided live music for the ondo.

The Southeast Japanese School and Community Center in Norwalk held its 62nd annual Cultural Festival and Ondo on June 7 and 8.
The festival featured food and game booths; an ikebana exhibit and Japanese doll (hina ningyo) display; bingo; a raffle; and ondo both days, with dancers coming from all over the Southland.
Entertainment and demonstrations in the gym and outdoors included:
Saturday — Ukulele, Gakuen students, karaoke open mic, Japanese classical dance, judo, Hawaiian Delites, koto, Hikari Taiko/Soran Bushi
Sunday — Kendo, hula, Gakuen students, karaoke open mic, Happyfunsmile, Hikari Taiko/Soran Bushi
New York-based Happyfunsmile performed a blend of Okinawan pop, electric folk songs (ultraminyo), ballads (enka), festival rhythms and Obon beats. They kicked off the ondo on Sunday with live music.
SEJSCC will celebrate its 100th anniversary on Saturday, July 26, with registration at 4 p.m., group photo at 4:30 p.m., social hour from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., and dinner at 5:30 p.m. For more information, call (562) 863-5996 or visit sejscc.org.
