Greater Los Angeles JACL and Intercollegiate Nikkei Council will present a live concert with Hana Effron and Travis Atreo on Saturday, May 30, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute, 1964 W. 162nd St., Gardena.

Hana Effron was born to an American father and Japanese mother Her musical journey began in Southern California when she sat down at the piano at age five. From those first notes, she gravitated toward the stage, her expressive presence and musical ear quickly setting her apart.
What began as casual cover-videos on TikTok became something much more: in 2020, her clips went viral, and she accumulated over one million followers and 20 million likes on the platform in just a few years. Encouraged by the response, she has now turned her focus fully to original music, crafting songs that reflect both her pop sensibility and her heritage.
Effron blends emotional storytelling with melodic fluency and the innate ability to compose by ear. As a true multi-instrumentalist, she brings to life her songs on both piano and guitar. Now, at just 20 years old, she is currently working on her third studio album, set for release later this year. Expect rich vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and a sound that speaks to both her roots and her vision.
Atreo is a singer, songwriter, producer and engineer originally from Seattle. He is formerly known as the lead singer of the band New Heights. After spending a little over eight years with the band, he packed his bags and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career as a music producer.
The Greater Los Angeles JACL was formed in 1983. Programs are open to the public and cover a variety of interesting and informative topics with guest speakers. The Japanese American Citizens League is the oldest and largest Asian Pacific American civil rights organization in the U.S.
The Southern California Intercollegiate Nikkei Council is a coalition of collegiate Nikkei Student Unions and associations throughout Southern California universities. It acts as a space to allow for community involvement and cultural education, as well as an important means of social networking.
