On July 25, Consul General of Japan in Los Angeles Kenko Sone presented the Commendation of the Consul General to Mitsuyasu Shigeta, who founded the Shin-Sen-Gumi Restaurant Group in 1992.
Shigeta has been a leader in promoting Japanese food in the U.S., and over the past 30 years, his restaurant group has expanded to 15 restaurants specializing in a variety of different Japanese cuisines, including yakitori, Hakata ramen, chanko nabe (hot pot), and more.
The Commendation of the Consul General was established to recognize an individual or group who has helped advance the mission of the Consulate General and has provided significant contributions to mutual understanding and promoting friendship between Japan and the U.S.
