
Ruth Kimiko Inadomi celebrated her 100th birthday with her family and the Torrance City Council on Dec. 2.
The Torrance City Council, at its Dec. 2 meeting, honored Ruth Kimiko Inadomi on the occasion of her 100th birthday.
Inadomi was joined by her family, including children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as members of the City Council read the following proclamation:

Mrs. Ruth Kimiko Inadomi was born on Nov. 26, 1925, in Los Angeles … and grew up attending Los Angeles High School before she and her family were relocated to the Japanese (American) internment camp in Poston, Ariz. during World War II …
She later married and, together with her husband Yosh, became one of the original founding donors of the Japanese American National Museum in Little Tokyo. In 1971, at the age of 45, she fulfilled her own lifelong dream of higher education by graduating from the University of Southern California, blessed with five children, and inspired them to pursue academic excellence, with her children earning degrees from prestigious institutions including USC, UCLA, Berkeley, MIT, Stanford, and Yale …
After the passing of her husband in 1985, Ruth became a widow and has lived more than 40 years with strength and independence, dedicating her life to her family as a loving mother, grandmother of ten, and great-grandmother of 12 …
In 1994 she moved from her Richard Neutra family home in Silver Lake to her new home in Torrance, where she remained active throughout her life, playing tennis well into her 80s at El Retiro Park in the Hollywood Riviera, golfing into her 90s as a member of the Alondra and Los Verdes Women’s Golf Clubs, serving as editor of The Sandtrap newsletter, and maintaining her health with Curves circuit training three times a week until the age of 98 …
She has lived independently without caregivers, continuing to challenge her mind with the Daily Breeze crossword, hosting weekly family Zoom gatherings, and serving as an enduring source of inspiration to all who know her …
Ruth Kimiko Inadomi’s life is further enriched by her extensive travels across Europe, Asia, and South America, her commitment to family, and her contributions to community and culture.
Now, therefore, I, George K. Chen, mayor of the City of Torrance, Calif., do hereby proclaim Mrs. Ruth Kimiko Inadomi at the blessed age of 100, as Centenarian of the City of Torrance and wish her a continued long life, prosperity, and the esteem of the entire community for a distinguished and incredible life.
