On April 16, members of the San Gabriel Nikkei Seniors enjoyed a four-hour tour of the fields and grounds at the Carlsbad Flower Gardens.
The trip began with an open-air ride through the ranunculus fields, a good way to start the day, riding along and taking in the natural beauty of the gorgeous flowers while listening to commentary on the history of the flower fields.
The group enjoyed other attractions, which included various gardens, a sweet pea maze, a butterfly encounter, and a cymbidium orchid greenhouse. When members needed a break, there was a picnic area with shaded benches and adjacent food trucks, offering pizza, Mexican food or other treats.
Thanks to a program grant from Keiro, the members of the SGNS were able to experience the beauty of the Carlsbad Flower Gardens without consideration of the expense of the trip. It enhanced their quality of life because it provided them with an activity outside their usual day-to-day life. This beautiful day was spent in the beautiful gardens, along with beautiful friends.
