Norio Uyematsu

The Yorba Linda Veterans Memorial Association will be holding its traditional Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 25, at 2 p.m. at the Yorba Linda Veterans Memorial, 4766 Valley View Ave., Yorba Linda.

The keynote speaker will be Norio Uyematsu, a 95-year-old Korean War veteran. He and his family were incarcerated behind barbed wire on American soil during World War II. But as a proud American who wanted to serve his country, he enlisted in the Army at the age of 17, served three years, and was promoted to the rank of corporal. He will share his fascinating story.

Yorba Linda Mayor Carlos Rodriguez has been invited to speak.The Esperanza High School Army JROTC will present the colors, pipers from the Los Angeles Police Emerald Society Pipes and Drums will be present, and the traditional Gold Star roll call will be conducted, followed by the playing of “Taps.”

The event is open to the public. A large tent set up to provide shade for attendees, who are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
