“Enduring Voices: Local Impacts of the Japanese American Incarceration of World War II” will be presented on Wednesday, May 20, at 6 p.m. at Museum of Ventura County’s Agriculture Museum, 926 Railroad Ave., Santa Paula.

CSU Channel Islands’ Dr. Lily Tamai will lead a community conversation inspired by this y ear’s “One Book, One Coast” selection, “They Called Us Enemy” by George Takei.

“One Book One Coast” is a West Coast book read that includes Washington, Oregon, and California. The presentation will discuss the effects of the Japanese American incarceration, centering on Takei’s book, which is a memoir and graphic novel about his family’s experience being unjustly rounded up and imprisoned.

Led locally by several libraries, the May 20 event will include a panel about the local Japanese American community’s experience during and after the incarceration. There will be giveaways, including copies of the book.

Participating organizations include County of Ventura Library, L.A. County Library, Blanchard Community Library (Santa Paula), John Spoor Broome Library (CSU Channel Islands), Agriculture Museum, Ventura County JACL, and Chicana/o Studies de CSUCI.
