A redo screening of Cory Shiozaki’s documentary “Little Guayule: The Lost Manzanar Rubber Project” will be held on Saturday, June 20, at 12 p.m. at Gardena Cinema, 14948 Crenshaw Blvd., Gardena.

This screening is for those who purchased tickets for the May 31 screening. Due to a water main break, the theater had to be evacuated before the film was over and the post-screening discussion was canceled.

Special guest panelists:

Dr. Glenn Kitayama of Cal Poly Pomona with Susares Downing, a plant science student who looked at guayule leaf trichomes as a possible indicator of latex content, and Hans Rabea, who helps supervise a group of undergraduates studying tissues from non-demented individuals that have Alzheimer’s pathology.

Dr. Bruce Emerson, grandson of Dr. Robert Emerson, lead scientist for the Little Guayule Project at Manzanar

Dr. Glenn Kageyama, professor at Cal Poly Pomona, whose father, Frank Kageyama, was a key horticultualist on the project

Dr. Betty Smocovitis, professor emerita at University of Florida, who has explored the life and work of Japanese American geneticist Masuo Kodani

Dr. Colleen McMahan, research geneticist with the USDA’s Agricultural Research Service

Learn about the untold story of innovation, resilience, and a community’s contribution to a national effort.

For those who are not ticket-holders from the May 31 event, a limited number of seats are available for a donation of $12 to support Gardena Cinema as a nonprofit theater.
