The long-awaited Seinan Koreisha Day Care Program in Los Angeles has been granted a California state license (#198320570) to operate adult day care services.
The program has been notifying the Greater Los Angeles communities of its bilingual (Japanese and English), bicultural services to seniors and it is now open to accepting participants.
The day care program is located in the Seinan District, which has deep historic roots in the Japanese American community. The inception of a Nikkei adult day care program in Los Angeles is the first of its kind.
The day care service provides basic classes (exercise, music, art, cooking) as well as traditional classes (calligraphy, flower arrangement, karaoke and others). Additionally, professional services are available — medical, psychological, and social work consultations, podiatry, and hair dressing. Lunch is also provided.
All staff members are experienced in geriatric care. The team of providers consists of a registered nurse, a recreation specialist, physicians, a licensed social worker, a licensed psychologist, a podiatrist, and a beautician.
In 2019, Koreisha Senior Care & Advocacy conducted a nationwide needs assessment of Nikkei senior programs. The findings indicated the needs of the younger generation to work and to pursue their interests while feeling reassured that their elders are being cared for in a safe and affordable program. This outcome led to the planning of the adult day care center.
There is a fee to participate in the program; however, financial assistance is available to those in need.

Days of operation: Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with extended hours until 5 p.m.
