In observance of the Fourth of July and the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California (AJSOCAL) has created a moving slideshow that celebrates the AAPI community’s presence and contributions across 250 years of this nation’s story.
“At a time when immigrant and AAPI contributions to American life need to be seen and celebrated, this is a joyous way to honor our histories with dignity and pride and to do so in our own voice,” AJSOCAL said in a statement. “Community partners, leaders, and AJSOCAL staff submitted personal family photos that help tell ancestral and immigrant stories that capture the arc of Asian American life across generations – family and cultural celebrations, community gatherings, and everyday scenes that speak to who we are and where we’ve been.”
The Japanese American National Museum’s Democracy Center is pleased to partner with AJSOCAL to project these images on the Pavilion, located at 100 N. Central Ave. in Little Tokyo, from sunset to sunrise over the holiday weekend.
