Katsuya Nakatani, 97, a devoted family man, passed away peacefully March 13, 2026. A Korean War Army veteran, a mechanic, and avid deep-sea fisherman, he dedicated his later years to preserving the legacy of his great-uncle, Shinshichi Nakatani, who built the Japanese Tea Garden’s Drum Bridge for the 1894 S.F. World’s Fair.

Predeceased by wife, Fujiko; he is survived by children, Natalie (David), Joanne (Dana) Swart, Glenn; and grandchildren, Nathan and Hailey Swart.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026, 12 p.m. at Fukui Mortuary “Chapel in the Garden,” 707 E. Temple St., Los Angeles, CA 90012, with Rimban William Briones of Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple officiating.
