Zenshuji Zendeko performs at the 2024 Obon Carnival.
Zenshuji Soto Mission, 123 S. Hewitt St. in L.A.’s Little Tokyo/Arts District, will hold i[ts O bon Carnival on Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26, from 12 to 7 p.m.
Everyone is invited to participate in Bon Odori. There will also be tea ceremony demonstrations.
Entertainment will include taiko drumming, folk dance and music, and martial arts.
Food booths will offer barbecue chicken and beef, takoyaki, chirashi sushi, wonton, somen, tamales, ohagi, corn, shaved ice and more.
The carnival will also feature white elephant and craft sales and raffle drawings.
Saturday, July 25
12:30-4 p.m.: Tea ceremony by Zenshuji Sado-bu in Tea Ceremony Room
1:30 p.m.: Obon service in Hondo
3 p.m.: L.A. Koto Ensemble led by Yuki Yasuda
4:30 p.m.: Tottori Kasa Odori (folk dance)
5:15 p.m.: Shorinji Kempo South Bay Branch
6 p.m.: Zen aerobics demonstration by Ted Uekuma
6:15 p.m.: Bon Odori led by Long Beach Ondo and Terminal Islanders
Sunday, July 26

1:30 p.m.: Obon service in Hondo
3 p.m.: Matsumae Kai (folk music) led by Yoshiko Monji
3:45 p.m.: Melodic rock & roll by Noel Takahashi

5:30 p.m.: Taiko performance by Zenshuji Zendeko
5:45 p.m.: Raffle drawing
6 p.m.: Bon Odori led by Bando Hidesomi
