Participants in the inaugural Queer Obon, held in 2023 at Terasaki Budokan.

Okaeri will present Queer Obon on Sunday, Sept. 20, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Terasaki Budokan, 249 S. Los Angeles St. in Little Tokyo.

This community festival gathers the Nikkei LGBTQ+ community to remember queer ancestors through ceremony and dance. Okaeri continues this tradition with an inclusive festival of queer joy, remembrance, and belonging. Open to all LGBTQ+ communities and friends.

The event features games, food, Obon altar, Bon Odori circle dancing, and more. Queer Obon also provides an opportunity for the Okaeri community to honor its late founder, Marsha Aizumi (1947-2025), as well as other members of the community who have been lost.
