The Venice Japanese Community Center presented five scholarship awards to its 2026 group of high school graduates.
Four were present at the annual Summer Festival on June 27 to receive their awards on stage from Bob Onishi, VJCC president. All five of the amazing honorees achieved stellar academic records, involved themselves in community service both at VJCC and the extended community, and participated in extracurricular activities.
The recipients are listed in alphabetical order below.
Nicholas Johnson is a graduate of Culver City High School and will be attending UCLA in the fall. His parents are Leslie and Stephen Johnson.
Makenna Lohmann is a graduate of Culver City High School and will be attending UC Santa Cruz this fall. Her parents are Cynthia and Scott Lohmann.
Audrey Nishida is a graduate of Marlborough School and will be attending Dartmouth College this fall. She is the daughter of Doug and Tia Nishida.
Conrad Oldoerp is a graduate of St. John Bosco High School and will be attending the University of Washington in the fall. His parents are Stanley Oldoerp and Lisa Yumori.
Spencer Oldoerp is a graduate of Loyola High School and will be attending UC Berkeley in the fall. He is the son of Stanley Oldeorp and Lisa Yumori.
The VJCC congratulates its scholars and send them off to college with best wishes as they continue to build on their futures.
