Rafu Staff Report

A young man apparently jumped to his death from a parking structure in Little Tokyo on Nov. 20.

Although The Rafu could not find witnesses to the jump, a number of people reported seeing emergency vehicles around the parking structure on First Street near San Pedro Street, adjacent to the Miyako Hotel.

The incident seems to have gone unnoticed by local media, but the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner’s website reports that a 17-year-old Asian male died of multiple traumatic injuries in a parking lot on Nov. 20.

The manner of death was determined to be a suicide, the case was closed, and the body was released to a family member.

As the coroner’s office did not respond to repeated requests for information, it could not be determined conclusively that this case was the one that happened in Little Tokyo. However, of the 10 reported deaths for that date, this was the only one in which the place of death was a parking lot.
