George Takei

A Walk of Fame ceremony for George Takei will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 12 p.m. at Vroman’s Bookstore, 695 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.

“Mr. Takei’s authorship and public civil rights work on behalf of all people, but particularly Japanese American and LGBTQIA+ folks, make him the perfect choice to join other authors with a strong connection to Vroman’s and the Pasadena community,” Vroman’s said in a statement. He will join such authors as Lisa See, Naomi Hirahara, Lian Dolan, Walter Mosley, and Michael Connolly.

“We will unveil Mr. Takei’s signature and handprint in concrete on our Walk of Fame. The induction will be followed by a few brief remarks from Mr. Takei himself, and a conversation with author and fellow Vroman’s Walk of Fame member Naomi Hirahara.”

This event will take place outside on the Paseo, weather permitting.

Best known for his portrayal of Sulu in the original “Star Trek” TV series and six feature films that followed, Takei has also built a distinguished body of work as a writer and public advocate. A prominent voice for civil rights, LGBTQ+ equality, and the remembrance of the wartime incarceration of Japanese Americans, he remains actively engaged in American cultural and civic life.

His Eisner Award-winning and New York Times bestselling 2019 graphic memoir “They Called Us Enemy,” written with Justin Eisinger and Steven Scott and illustrated by Harmony Becker, has since become widely taught in classrooms, even as it has become a target of book bans.
