Author Janice Munemitsu will discuss her first book, “The Kindness of Color,” on Sunday, March 9, at 2 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chamber, 200 Civic Center in Mission Viejo.
“The Kindness of Color” tells the true story of the incarceration of Munemitsu’s family during World War II and their connection to the Mendez family of California’s landmark school desegregation case Mendez, et. al v. Westminster (1947).
Munemitsu, a third-generation Japanese American and an Orange County native, worked on the family farm during her youth. She is a graduate of the University of Southern California and Biola University.
Her family name (宗 光) means “source of light” in Japanese. She hopes this book will be a source of light and hope, inspiring readers to cultivate increasing kindness towards one another.
Books will be available for purchase on site and all ages are welcome. Free admission.
This event is part of art of a Mission Viejo Library grant-funded project, “Ordinary Voices, Extraordinary Impact,” which also includes a letter-writing campaign and community art project.
