People of all ages participated in the ondo.
The Summer Natsu Matsuri Festival will be held on Saturday, June 27, from 12 to 9 p.m. and Sunday, June 28, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Venice Japanese Community Center, 12448 Braddock Dr., Los Angeles.
The annual event will feature food (including udon), games for kids, cultural exhibits and demonstrations, and performances. The schedule is as follows:
Saturday, June 27
1:30 p.m.: Iaido
2 p.m.: Kendo
2:30 p.m.: Aikido
3 p.m.: Judo
3:30 p.m.: Karate
4 p.m.: Taiko
4:30 p.m.: Miss Western L.A. and VJCC Scholarships
5:30-6:30 p.m.: Ondo
7:30-8:30 p.m.: Performance by singer Hana Effron
Sunday, June 28
1 p.m.: Zumba
1:30 p.m.: Hula
2:30 p.m.: Aikido
3 p.m.: Judo
3:30 p.m.: Karate
4:30 p.m. Taiko
5:30-6:30 p.m.: Ondo
7 p.m: Raffle
Raffle prizes will be drawn throughout the day; top prizes will be drawn on Sunday after ondo.
Demonstrations (Both Days)
1-2 p.m.: Sumi-e
2-3 p.m.: Ikebana
3-4 p.m.: Shodo/shigin
4-5 p.m.: Bonsai
Proceeds go to the VJCC Operating Fund.
