Orange County Buddhist Church, 909 S.Dale Ave. in Anaheim, will hold its Obon Festival on Saturday, July 18, from 2 to 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 19, from 2 to 8 p.m.
Taiko performances at 4 and 6 p.m. Bon Odori at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to participate in the dancing.
The festival will include games for kids, a boutique and food, which is available for take-out.
On the menu: beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, California roll, corn, ika teriyaki, inari sushi, mixed suchi teriburger, tofu salad, somen, Spam musubi, won ton, sata andagi (dango), Dango Dog, Imagawa yaki,shaved ice.
Free parking with shuttle service from 1:30 to 9 p.m. at Western High School, 501 S. Western Ave., Anaheim (enter parking lot from Orange Avenue).
No pets; trained service dogs for persons with disabilities are allowed.
Obon (Gathering of Joy or Kangi-e) is a day to remember the deceased, who made it possible for us to exist and to encounter the Dharma. Shin Buddhists partake in outdoor folk dancing in gratitude to those who have gone before us.
