The following anime features will be screened at the Ted Mann Theater, Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, 6067 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles.

Programmed to accompany the exhibition “Studio Ghibli’s Ponyo,” “The World of Studio Ghibli” celebrates the traditional hand-drawn animation and imaginative storytelling of one of the world’s most recognizable animation studios.

  • “Whisper of the Heart” (1995) in 4K on Friday, July 3, at 2:30 p.m. The first and only feature directed by veteran Studio Ghibli animator Yoshifumi Kondo, from a script by Hayao Miyazaki, this is a wistful coming-of-age saga.

One day, bookworm Shizuku finds a cat riding the same train as her. She follows it to an antique shop, where a peculiar statuette of a dapper feline named Baron Humbert von Gikkingen sends her imagination reeling.

A tale of crushes, daydreams and friendships, “Whisper of the Heart” bears the stamp of Studio Ghibli’s superior craftsmanship.

Voice cast includes Yoko Honna, Issei Takahashi, Takashi Tachibana, Shigeru Muroi.

  • “Princess Mononoke” (1997) in 35mm on Monday, July 6; Wednesday, July 8; Thursday, July 9, at 2:30 p.m. Hayao Miyazaki’s international breakthorugh is an epic cinematic marvel.

Infected by a deadly curse after killing a god, young warrior Ashitaka heads west in search of a cure. He stumbles upon a bitter conflict between Lady Eboshi, the proud people of Iron Town, and the enigmatic Princess Mononoke, a girl raised by wolves, who will stop at nothing to prevent humans from destroying her home, and the forest spirits and animal gods that live there.

Voice cast includes Yoji Matsuda, Yuriko Ishida, Yuko Tanaka, Kaoru Kobayashi.

• “My Neighbors the Yamadas” (1999) on Monday, July 13; Wednesday, July 15; Friday, July 17, at 2:30 p.m. Isao Takahata’s adaptation of Hisaichi Ishii’s beloved slice-of-life manga departs from Studio Ghibli’s traditional anime style and instead uses a roughly sketched comic-strip look.

Awash in pastel watercolors, “My Neighbors the Yamadas” delights in the everyday misadventures of its titular family — dad, mom, older brother, little sister, granny, and Pochi the dog. Punctuated by daydreams and fantasties, Takahata’s film is a heart-warming and honest look at modern family life.

Voice cast includes Yukiji Asaoka, Toru Masaoka, Masako Araki, Hayato Isohata.

  • “Spirited Away” (2001) in 35mm on Monday, July 20; Wednesday, July 22; Friday, July 24, at 2:30 p.m. Hayao Miyazaki’s first Oscar win and the first hand-drawn, non-English-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

The film invites audiences into a mind-bending supernatural realm when a wrong turn on a family road trip lands 10-year-old Chihiro in a mysterious dimension populated by all manner of creatures, including soot gremlins, the giant witch Yubaba, and the enigmatic No Face.

To find her parents and return to the real world, Chihiro must work at an enchanted bathhouse serving spirits of all shapes and sizes.

Voice cast includes Rumi Hiiragi, Miyu Irino, Mari Natsuki, Takashi Naito.

The series continues in August.
